Following the heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding on Tuesday evening, various areas across eThekwini have been left without electricity.

In a statement, the eThekwini Municipality said teams from its electricity unit have been mobilised and dispatched to assess and address the outages.

The most impacted areas include Phoenix Industrial, Engonyameni, Southridge, uMlazi, Folweni, Isipingo, Bayview (Chatsworth) and Warner Beach.

“The adverse weather conditions have resulted in a large number of outages, particularly affecting regions in the southern and northern parts of Durban. However, the flooding aftermath and its impact on infrastructure will see restoration efforts taking longer than usual. We kindly request patience from residents as our teams work diligently to repair the damage,” said the statement.

In addition, the city said the South African Weather Service yellow level 2 weather warning - of heavy downpours and localised flooding - remained in place until 6pm this evening.
