Singer-songwriter and title-holder of Miss Teen Earth International Chloé-Jade Christian, 16, shares her excitement about her being announced teen ambassador for New Romantics Couture, a renowned high-end fashion house.
The brand, which has been in business since 2005, is conceptualised and run by Nadene Marx, a fashion designer who is inspired by various colours, patterns, and textures.
Finding synergy with Chloé-Jade, who often makes her way into the spotlight and is without doubt dressed to the nines, makes their partnership more interesting.
The beauty queen, who believes that your wardrobe says who you are before you even speak, says dressing up has always been her form of escapism and self-expression.
“I’ve always loved dressing up, since I was a little girl,” she says. “I would raid my mother’s cupboard, parading around in her oversized dresses and high heels and loving every moment. It was my form of escapism and self expression, and it still is to this very day. Fashion makes me feel liberated and free to be me. It makes me feel confident and brave, and New Romantics designs speak to my heart.”
Marx speaks about Chloé-Jade and what sparked their interest to choose her. “Chloé-Jade is always such a bundle of friendliness and a breath of fresh air. She lights up a room, is very patient, and is willing to try new designs. She was an obvious choice for our new teen ambassador.”
The teenage star further offers her 10 best fashion suggestions:
1. Experiment and try to find your own style that fits YOU.
Personal style is all about expressing your individuality through fashion. Look to your closet for inspiration. Think about the clothes that make you happy. Create a Pinterest board.
2. Don’t be afraid of layering. Layering adds depth and dimension to your outfit.
Layering is not just about cold weather and keeping warm; it can enhance your outfit and make a bold statement. Layering adds depth and texture to your attire.
3. Find colours that complement your skin tone and hair colour, and build around that.
We are all unique in many ways, from pale to dark skin, blonde to brown hair; these distinguishing factors help set us apart. You are going to want clothes that flatter your complexion and hair colour.
4. Dress in what makes you feel comfortable.
Dressing comfortably doesn’t necessarily mean baggy clothes. You can dress for success and still be comfy. Wearing comfortable clothes helps us feel more in control and grounded.
5. Confidence is key! Confidence can make the simplest outfit look stylish and classy.
When we feel confident in what we are wearing, we add to our outfit’s overall appeal. The secret to confidence is to be yourself. When we believe in ourselves, others will too.
6. Try to find clothes that complement your body type.
Each body is unique, and your clothes should be tailored to fit your unique dimensions. Knowing your basic body shape and understanding the types of clothes that will accentuate your figure will ensure you look good without even trying.
7. Look after your skin and body.
Remember your skincare and make-up are part of your wardrobe.
8. Set a budget and don’t overspend.
It’s important to invest in quality, not quantity. Investing in good fabrics will extend the shelf life of your wardrobe.
9. You don’t always need the newest clothes to look elegant and classy; use what you have.
Practice makes perfect. Spend some time pairing items of clothing that you own and mixing and matching to see what works for you and what doesn’t.
10. Stay updated.
Use fashion trends as a reference; you never know what you might find. Find the looks that resonate with your taste and personality and incorporate them with your personal style.
