Showmax viewers got a peek into some of South Africa’s top celebrity kids through the hit new reality show, “Born Into Fame”.
AJ Mafokate and Owami Mafokate, Arthur Mafokate’s children; Shamiso Mosaka, daughter of radio presenter Azania Mosaka; Robbie Malinga Jnr, son of the late Robbie Malinga; Phila Madlingozi, son of legendary musician Ringo Madlingozi; and Tank “The Rockstar” Khathi, the son of popular music producer, DJ Tira, make up the cast.
Tank, who is on a mission to crave out a name for himself in the music industry admitted that being DJ Tira’s son hasn’t made his journey easy.
“People expect me to be on point all the time, not realising that I am just figuring myself and my sound out.
“People expect perfection but that is not how life is. People just expect you to be like your dad; they do not give you a chance to be yourself.
“I am still trying to build my career and it is a work in progress.” he said.
On the flip side, Tank accepts that there are many positives to being the son of the South African music icon.
“I get whatever I want, wherever I go. My dad has worked so hard and that affords me a certain lifestyle and access to things.
“There is a lot that comes with it and it can be a cheat code to get the things you want.
“Like everything else, it has its challenges, but at this point in my life, I am used to it,” he shared.
Despite getting everything he wants, The rising star confessed that he lacked quality time with his dad because of DJ Tira’s busy schedule.
“There is always a project that he is working on,” he said.
Tank described his journey on the reality show as “really dope”.
“I get a lot of people who interact with me because of the show, so overall, it has been very cool. There are times when I see things I do not like but it is what it is.”
He added that with his own children who will also be born into fame, he wanted to make sure they knew that education was the key to success.
“They need to know that school is the basis of everything and I will be there to guide them throughout the journey.
On why viewers should tune in, he said: “It only gets better as the show progresses - a lot of questions will be answered and some things will start to make more sense.”
