Organisers Stadium Management South Africa (SMSA) have urged spectators to purchase tickets for the Soweto Derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates before travelling to the FNB Stadium on Saturday.
While a few of the derbies in recent years have ended in boring stalemates – resulting in them being called “Drawbies” – this time around there is great excitement, as Chiefs and Pirates are actually in contention for the Premier Soccer League title.
The Buccaneers are just four points behind log-leaders Mamelodi Sundowns in second position on 36, with Chiefs in third on 35 with just eight games to go.
Sundowns take on AmaZulu at the King Zwelithini Stadium in uMlazi on Friday evening at 6pm, and both Chiefs and Pirates will hope that the “Brazilians” drop points against Usuthu in KZN.
In a statement on Friday, SMSA said: “No tickets will be sold at the venue. Supporters who do not have tickets will not be able to get into the stadium or the precinct around FNB Stadium.
“Tickets can only be purchased from Computicket and their outlets. Supporters are urged not to buy tickets from any other source.
“Road closures are in place around the FNB Stadium and all vehicles will be checked for parking tickets. Patrons not using public transport must purchase parking tickets from Computicket.”
