Durban - The Absa Premiership Woza Nazo match between AmaZulu and Lamontville Golden Arrows is more than just a match for the players and the supporters - it’s an opportunity for the province, rich in culture and soccer history, to embrace and express their pride of both clubs, while fans seek the coveted Durban city bragging rights.
The much-anticipated game between the two city rivals is one of the oldest city rivalries in the Absa Premiership league and will take place on Saturday December 22 at the King Zwelithini stadium in Umlazi. The match comes at a time when both teams are in great need for points, with Abafana Besthende in the bottom half of the table while the hosts, Usuthu, are last on the log standings.
For proud sponsors of the Absa Premiership, the game will see the banking giants giving fans another opportunity to “bring their voice” in Umlazi for the Durban Derby. Absa will use the Durban Derby to continue to encourage fans to celebrate the wins and the spectacular league goals.
Bring Your Voice captures in one short phrase the essence of South African football, which the fans have delivered on since the start of the season - the singing culture. Absa will be providing the passionate Absa Premiership fans a platform that inspires and celebrates football in a truly South African way.
“The Woza Nazo Durban Derby is finally upon us in the warmest city in the country! Soccer is the greatest unifier in the world and we’re excited to play our part in the build-up to the match to reinforce the passion for soccer through various roadshows that will be taking place in Umlazi on Thursday and Friday, December 20 and 21, respectively.” says Rajiv Singh, the KZN Regional Executive of Physical Channels.
These activations will be held at Umlazi MegaCity Mall and Eyadeni.
“The province is known for its love of the beautiful game and fans really support the two Absa Premiership teams. This Woza Nazo fixture will assist us in further strengthening relationships with our clients and football supporters and providing them with benefits such as the Absa Red Ticket Zone on match day,” Rajiv added.
Absa will be bringing fans the ultimate match day experience through the Woza Nazo Absa Red Zone, where over a 1 000 soccer fans will get access to an exclusive area where there will be entertainment, food, refreshments and Woza Nazo merchandise ahead of the match.
The Absa Red Zone will be located on the outer field at King Zwelithini stadium, and open from 12pm until 2.30pm on December 22.
During this match, Absa will be looking for its sixth finalist for the Kick for a Million competition, which will take place during halftime. Fans can register on arrival at the stadium to be part of the Kick-For-A-Million competition.
“As Absa, we are continuing to positively impact local soccer in South Africa. Through competitions such as the Kick for a Million, we are investing in the fans and giving them a reason to believe in greater possibilities. We look forward to a highly entertaining Durban Derby,” Rajiv said.
