Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has insisted he will need more than one assistant coach. This comes after one of his assistants, Fernando da Cruz, left the club after just six weeks.

The newly-appointed Chiefs coach Nabi arrived with assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef, goalkeeper coach Ilyes Mzoughi and strength and conditioning coach, Safi Majdi.

Nabi was speaking after his side got off to a winning start in their opening Betway Premiership clash against Marumo Gallants last weekend.

‘I have too much work’

When asked if he would want to replace Da Cruz, he responded: “Why not? All is possible.

“It’s possible because I have too much work, [too much of a] job. [To work] only with one assistant is not [ideal]. I have specific work with [various aspects].

“If Mr Cruz definitely goes to Morocco I think it’s good. We received a letter from Morocco but we waited for a better time to observe the situation.”

Chiefs have been in the headlines for most of the week, after 18-year-old Mfundo Vilakazi scored the winner with 11 minutes remaining, as Chiefs won their opening game of the season for the first time since their 2019/2020 campaign.

Last season, Chiefs finished way down in 10th position on the table, and have since made a number of new signings and hired a new coach.

Nabi has the pressurised job as Chiefs coach and welcomed the three points to start his tenure.

In the lead-up to the clash, Nabi has called for patience and understanding from the normally volatile AmaKhosi fans.
