LONDON – Manchester United are working to sign Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen before the transfer window closes on Thursday.
Representatives of Eriksen are hopeful of negotiating a move, and those close to the 27-year-old Dane revealed yesterday that he is at the top of United’s list.
United are working to finalise their incomings, but they will have until September 2 to negotiate sales, including that of Paul Pogba, to foreign clubs.
That is because the windows in Germany, Italy, Spain and France shut more than three weeks after England’s.
Tottenham are hopeful of striking a deal for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes – another one-time United target – before Thursday.
Spurs have also been heavily linked with Real Betis’ Giovani lo Celso.
Eriksen had hoped to move to Real Madrid, but the Spanish side have shown more interest in Pogba and Ajax’s Donny van de Beek.

Should Eriksen remain at Tottenham after Thursday’s deadline, the likes of Juventus and Atletico Madrid will consider making cut-price bids of around £50 million to tempt Spurs.
Eriksen’s contract expires in 2020, meaning Tottenham risk losing him for nothing next summer.
English clubs balked at Spurs chairman Daniel Levy’s original valuation of £130m for Eriksen at the start of the window. United may offer half that sum.
