JOHANNESBURG – Hiren Bhanu, one of the franchise owners of the now-defunct T20 Global League (GLT20), is suing Cricket South Africa (CSA), claiming damages of around R7.3-million, plus interest and costs.
CSA reportedly paid Bhanu, the owner of the Pretoria Mavericks, compensation for the initial deposit of a GLT20 team licence, but, according to legal documents obtained by ESPNcricinfo, that is not enough.
Bhanu says he has also spent money on marketing, salaries and wages, travel and various other expenses, and he wants compensation for that too.
"We’re going to sue them for damages for the efforts that we put in," Bhanu told ESPNcricinfo.
“Some people were paid their expenses, and they are happy with that.
"I'm not happy. We just want to be compensated for our time and effort.”
The GLT20 has since been replaced the Mzansi Super League, which is currently taking place across South Africa.
In response, Thabang Moroe, CSA's chief executive, told ESPNcricinfo: "We have a legal team tasked with dealing with those matters."
