Johannesburg - Cape Cobras captain and West Indian allrounder Kieron Pollard has called on his players to stay grounded ahead of their clash against the Warriors at St George's Park on Friday.
The Cobras have had two important wins in a row to vault into third spot - one point ahead of the Lions - the last playoff qualifying position with two games left before the knockout stage of the competition.
“What is important is to start from zero, and not from the high of the previous game,” said Pollard. “You have to focus on doing things right, and the rest will take care of itself. It has been an advantage that Richard Levi and Wayne Parnell were off to good starts. The players following them, could just knock the ball around and take care of the bad deliveries,” he said.
Pollard is the most experienced T20 player currently plying his trade in South Africa. He is knowledgeable enough about the Warriors to know where the cracks could be.
Pollard dismissed criticism about the death bowling. He said the way Dane Paterson and Parnell bowled at Newlands against the Knights on Wednesday, spoke volumes.
The Cobras won that match by eight wickets, and if they can knock the Warriors off their pedestal at 6pm on Friday, the clash on Sunday at Boland Park against the fourth-placed Highveld Lions could be a straight shootout for a playoff spot.
That match starts at 2.30pm.
