Dr Norman Cahi takes the smallest church in the world

This tiny Roman Catholic Church with its adjacent cemetery has been a part of my childhood memories for as long as I can remember. My late parents would always stop here en route to our annual holiday in Durban in the 60s and 70s and in mid- July it was always freezing with heavy early morning fog, which added to the atmosphere and excitement of the visit. When driving back from the Drakensberg, we love stopping off at the smallest church in the world on Van Reenen’s Pass.

This tiny Roman Catholic Church with its adjacent cemetery has been a part of my childhood memories for as long as I can remember. My late parents would always stop here en route to our annual holiday in Durban in the 60s and 70s and in mid- July it was always freezing with heavy early morning fog, which added to the atmosphere and excitement of the visit. The tiny altar is adorned with the most beautiful statues of Jesus Christ and Mother Mary.. Many worshippers leave behind rosaries, prayers and candles.
The story of the Little Church is proudly displayed on the door to the antique shop : tea room.
The high point is always enjoying the freshest home baked scones with clotted cream and delicious blueberry jam with piping hot tea next to the burning fire.
Tame donkeys roam the little garden, chomping at the grassy edges.
Stunning stone and concrete artefacts holding little boxes of relics and remains add a unique feel of peacefulness and tranquility.
The belting summer rains simply added allure and warmth to the attractive atmosphere of the outdoor space where delicious food is served on dry days.
The beautiful antique church bell takes pride of place in tea room gardens.
Exquisite antiques and vintage collectibles can be purchased from the ever expanding collection in this beautiful little shop.
Beautiful foliage covered stone walls in the tiny cemetery. A lovely resting place for local people.
