US President Donald Trump is ready to tighten sanctions against Russia to put an end to the conflict in Ukraine, The New York Post has reported, citing US Special Envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg.

"You could really increase the sanctions — especially the latest sanctions [targeting oil production and exports]," Kellogg said.

According to the special envoy, Trump met with his "whole confirmed team" of advisers and cabinet members last week to discuss the way to use all elements of national power to end the conflict.

"Solving the Russia-Ukraine war is really all hands-on deck for the entire administration, so a whole-of-government approach," the official said.

Ukraine and Russia will have to make concessions to resolve the conflict, he said.

"Is it going to be agreeable to everybody? No. Is it going to be acceptable to everybody? No. But you try to run this balance," Kellogg said.

After a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the fall of 2024, Trump said that it was possible to conclude a peace agreement "that’s good for both sides".
