On 20th November 2024, Langa High School will witness the launch of the African Innovation Academy (AIA) x iXperiment Program, an educational initiative poised to revolutionise youth empowerment through entrepreneurship and digital skills. Aligned with World Children’s Day, this event symbolises a commitment to nurturing the potential of South Africa’s youth, equipping them with the tools needed to address pressing local challenges and thrive in the global economy.

The AIA program is a partnership between African Innovation Solutions and the iXperiment model from Romania, known as Africa’s first high school startup accelerator. This collaboration brings an innovative approach to education, blending theoretical learning with practical implementation. The curriculum is structured into four dynamic stages—Ideate, Innovate, Initiate, and Iterate—that guide students from problem identification to the creation of sustainable solutions.

“This program is about empowering young minds to become problem solvers and innovators, not just for their communities but for the world,” said Palesa Nangu, CEO of African Innovation Solutions, who will officially launch the program at the event.

A Platform for Inspiration

The launch event will feature an impressive lineup of speakers, each bringing a wealth of experience and inspiration:

  • Thomas, CEO of Ozow, will deliver the keynote address, sharing insights into his entrepreneurial journey and the importance of innovation in today’s world. ● Ghalieb Jardien, a renowned entrepreneur and mentor, will encourage students to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams.
  • Dr. Neo Mothobi (PhD), Chief Education Specialist from the Department of Basic Education, will emphasise the crucial role of education in empowering young entrepreneurs and fostering innovation.

The program’s grand finale will be a student competition, where participants present their business ideas to a panel of entrepreneurs and potential investors, providing them with real-world exposure and invaluable feedback.

Contributions That Matter

As part of the launch, Survé Philanthropies has pledged to upgrade a classroom at Langa High School, funding its painting and refurbishment. This contribution reflects the organisation’s commitment to creating environments that inspire learning and creativity.

A Shared Vision for Change

The AIA program is more than an educational initiative—it is a movement to equip South Africa’s youth with critical entrepreneurial skills that empower them to create meaningful change in their communities. By offering practical experience and exposure to industry leaders, the program aims to prepare students to tackle local and global challenges effectively.

“Entrepreneurship is a powerful tool for youth development,” said one of the event speakers. “Programs like AIA are essential to unlocking the potential of young people and building a stronger, more innovative future for South Africa.”
