Cape Town - The Cabinet has set up a task team that will meet with traditional leaders to address the concerns around land raised by some of the communities they serve.
Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Zweli Mkhize has been appointed to lead the five-member task team.
Mkhize will have his first engagement on Friday on the land question.
Communications Minister Nomvula Mokonyane announced on Thursday that following its meeting Cabinet decided that the task team should address concerns raised by various stakeholders including the Ingonyama Trust.
Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini told a gathering in Ulundi this week they would oppose attempts to expropriate land from his authority.
Mokonyane said they noted concerns by traditional leaders.
“Cabinet also reflected on the concerns expressed by traditional leaders on land issues. As a result, it has appointed a team of Ministers to interact with the traditional leaders to discuss and seek an amicable solution to their areas of concern,” said Mokonyane.
Mkhize will be supported by Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Senzeni Zokwana, Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform Maite Nkoana-Mashabane and Mokonyane.
Mkhize will start meeting with the traditional leaders on Friday.
