In a brazen act of stock theft, 126 goats valued at over R315,000 were stolen from a farm outside Kimberley on Sunday, December 1, prompting a high-stakes investigation by the Kimberley Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit.

"It was reported that the complainant noticed that the padlock of the enclosure was believed to be broken, and the goats had been stolen," said police spokesperson, Colonel Cherelle Ehlers.

In a swift operation led by the Kimberley stock theft and Endangered Species Unit, officers managed to recover 114 goats over two days.

"Investigations led to the recovery of 19 goats, with an estimated value of R47,000 on the Griekwastad road outside Kimberley," said Ehlers.

Following up on leads, police uncovered 95 goats, valued at R237,000, near Platfontein on Monday, December 2.

Ehlers confirmed that the lawful owner was informed and positively identified the branding markings on the goats.

While the majority of the stolen livestock has been recovered, the investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made yet.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
