International motocross returns to South Africa with the 2013 FIM Motocross of African Nations Continental Championship, which will be held at the Syringa Park circuit in Muldersdrift on Saturday and Sunday.
The races will be contested by more than 110 riders from five nations in three junior classes (MX50, MX65 and MX Lites) and three senior classes (MX125, MX2 and MX1) as well as a ladies class and a veterans class.
The meeting will bring together the continent’s best motocross riders at the well-known Syringa circuit and provide local motocross fans with a unique opportunity to watch top-class riding in a great family environment. Many former national champions will be in action, as well as all the current leaders of the various South African class championships and the cream of South Africa’s up-and-coming talent.
WORLD CLASS
The South African contingent will comprise 38 riders, including 2000 MX125cc world champion and four-time American AMA champion Grant Langston. Langston, who turned pro in 1998, now lives in California where his family has a motorcycle dealership.
Saturday is set aside for two official practice sessions with the first session getting underway at 8am and the final session due to end at around 4.30pm. Sunday’s programme starts with practice at 6.30am and racing will start at 8.30am. There will be three races per class with the final race due to end at 4.20pm.
The spectator entry fee is R30 on Saturday and R50 on Sunday, with children under 13 paying R20 on both days. - Star Motoring
