The highly anticipated “Comedy Central Roast of Pearl Thusi” finally aired on screens on Sunday evening.
Comedy Central hosted a watch party in Sandton for Thusi and her friends, some of Mzansi’s famous faces who decided to honour the invitation.
Thusi was roasted by TV and radio star Phat Joe, RnB musician Donald and platinum-selling singer-songwriter Zee Nxumalo, Zodwa Wabantu, Randall Abrahams, Busiswa, Farieda “Pharoahfi” Metsileng, veteran funnyman David Kau, comedians Rob van Vuuren and Tol Ass Mo, and award-winning actress Mam’ Lillian Dube.
Musician Zee Nxumalo and controversial dancer and socialite Zodwa Wabantu made sure to sizzle when it came to roasting Thusi and the rest of the panelists. Zodwa Wabantu was her authentic self delivering a phenomenal performance in her native language, Zulu.
Zee Nxumalo showed off a different side but made sure to bring the heat and sizzle which tends to be easy when you have a good script and sure did.
Some of the panelists had moments where one wondered where there were no researchers on the production team
The roast was filmed at Gold Reef City’s Lyric Theatre on Thursday, November 21, now the final product is out for everyone to enjoy.
Thusi’s long-time colleague, actor, Metro FM presenter, choreographer, “Idols judge”, style icon and social butterfly Somizi “SomGaga” Mhlongo served as roastmaster.
A former roastee himself, Mhlongo served on the panel for Kenny Kunene’s Roast, but for his roastmaster debut he went all out, even with over the top outfits which were louder than his performance.
