US former President Donald Trump has recently returned to X, formerly known as Twitter, after being banned in 2021 for tweets deemed to incite violence following the Capitol riot.
His banned tweets included statements like, "The 75,000,000 great American Patriots ... will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future..." and "I will not be going to the Inauguration on January ," which Twitter viewed as promoting unrest, leading to a permanent suspension.
Trump’s return followed a November 2022 poll conducted by Elon Musk, the owner of X, who sought user opinions on reinstating Trump.
After the poll showed support for Trump’s return, Musk announced, “The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated.” Trump’s account was subsequently reactivated.
Since his return, Trump has made a strong comeback on X with three campaign videos, presenting his vision for the country and criticising his opponent, whom he labels as “San Francisco Radical Kamala Harris.” This comes as Harris gains traction in various election polls.
Trump’s return has been met with mixed reactions on X. Some users, including Musk, welcomed him enthusiastically, while others expressed concerns about potential divisive content and the implications of his reinstatement.
Moreover, Trump joined Musk for a live space yesterday that lasted about two hours. The live had about 1.2 Million people who were listening.
They discussed several topics, including the current political climate, with Trump stating, “We’re seeing unprecedented polarisation. It’s crucial that we address the divide and work towards unity.”
They also addressed the US economy, with Trump expressing concerns, “We’re dealing with serious issues. We need strong leadership to fix inflation and encourage growth.”
Musk agreed, emphasising that “To revive the economy, we need both creative solutions and practical plans to tackle the challenges we face.”
During the interview Musk made a comment saying “It’s essential that you win the election for the sake of the country.”
