Durban — Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team (SOT) managed to arrest a suspect driving a silver VW Polo linked to theft incidents.

Initially, the team was acting on information about a stolen white VW Polo which was also linked to theft incidents.

Marshall Security managing director Tyron Powell said that on Friday around 6am, SOT acted on information about a white VW Polo stolen from Alpine Road in Sydenham, Durban.

While patrolling, SOT members spotted the white VW Polo along with a silver VW Polo, both vehicles linked to theft incidents. Recognising the vehicles, the team immediately followed them.

“The white VW Polo diverted onto Joyce Road, temporarily evading the team,” Powell said.

“However, the SOT continued following the silver VW Polo, which eventually came to a stop on Inanda Road. Two suspects fled from the vehicle into nearby bushes, while one suspect, seated in the driver’s seat, was apprehended.”

Powell said the Durban SAPS K9 Unit arrived promptly to assist in tracking the fleeing suspects, but despite the K9 Unit’s efforts, the dense vegetation hindered further apprehensions.

“Upon searching the silver VW Polo, officers discovered housebreaking implements, car-breaking tools, and computer boxes used to steal vehicles,” stated Powell.

“Further investigation revealed tampered VIN and engine numbers, as well as false number plates. It was also determined that this same silver VW Polo had been used in another theft incident earlier in the week in Mayville.”

Powell said the apprehended suspect and the silver VW Polo were taken to Newlands East police station for further investigation and processing.

“Meanwhile, the white VW Polo was later recovered by Matrix tracking company in KwaMashu.”

Adding, Powell said: “Marshall Security commends the swift coordination between its Special Operations Team, the Durban SAPS K9 Unit, and Newlands East SAPS.

“This successful recovery underscores the importance of vigilance and teamwork in combating vehicle theft and protecting the community.”

Police were approached for comment but none was received by the time of publication.
