Durban — Nelisiwe Mkhize, CEO of SANDA Skills Development is nominated for the Standard Bank Top Women in Business Awards 2024.
Her nomination spans two prestigious categories: Top Women Leader in Professional and Support Services, and Top Women in Business in Skills Development and Youth.
Spokesperson for SANDA Skills Development Thobeka Yengwa said that Mkhize's hard work and dedication paid off.
“Her leadership has been instrumental in driving the growth and success of our organisation,” Yengwa said.
Reflecting on her journey, Mkhize shares the formidable challenges faced during the Covid-19 pandemic, which heavily impacted her organisation.
“We were forced to shut down most of our departments and regrettably retrench 20 staff members. Our ability to pivot was hampered by our lack of preparedness in terms of artificial intelligence (AI) and systems, compelling us to start from scratch,” she recounted.
Despite these setbacks, Mkhize emphasised resilience.
“It was a difficult time for our industry, but the kindness and solidarity of our business community helped us navigate the storm. I am proud to say that we not only survived but continue to thrive, thanks to the determination of our team,” she said.
Looking toward the future, Mkhize remains steadfast in her mission to empower youth and foster skills development. Her aspirations for the next five years include expanding programs to reach more disadvantaged young people, establishing key partnerships for internships and job opportunities, and advocating for policies that support youth empowerment.
“Ultimately, my goal is to create a lasting legacy that inspires and empower future generations,” Mkhize stated.
Overwhelmed with gratitude, she said: “Being nominated and selected as a finalist is an incredible honour. It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team, and I am proud to lead such a talented group of individuals,” she said
