Durban — The KwaZulu-Natal Education department has started its countdown to the final National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations that begin in October across the country.

The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Education, Sipho Hlomuka, announced the 100 Day count down starting on Saturday, July 13 to the start of the Final 2024 National Senior Certificate Examinations (NSC) on October 21.

In the statement released on Saturday, the department stated that the examinations marked a significant milestone in the lives of the Matric Class of 2024 across South Africa, having only 100 days left to the final examinations.

Hlomuka also said that as the countdown begins, Grade 12 pupils are urged to stay focused, motivated, and committed religiously to follow their study timetable.

“I like to remind our Matric Candidates, that the 2024 NSC Examinations is scheduled to start on Monday, 21 October 2024 with English in the morning session and Afrikaans in the afternoon session.” said Hlomuka.

He also wished all Grade 12 pupils the best of luck as they prepare for their most important milestone examinations in their academic journey, after 12 years of schooling.

“Let's make the next 100 days count,” said Hlomuka.

Former MEC for education Mbali Frazer had announced earlier this year that the Class of 2023 had achieved 43 769 Diploma passes, while the number of higher certificates decreased from 22 560 in 2022 to 20 435 in 2023 and that there is a second chance for those who do not pass their exams.

Speaking to sister newspaper Sunday Tribune, Sihle Mlotshwa, spokesperson for the Department of Education, said candidates are allowed to apply to have their exam papers remarked or rechecked through their district offices once examination results have been released.

For the amended version of the timetable, pupils would also be able to view them on the Department of Education websites: https://www.education.gov.za/Portals/0/Documents/Publications/2024/2024%20NSC%20timetable.pdf?ver=2024-07-03-150424-243
