Cape Town - In a three-day rescue mission, Cape of Good Hope SPCA staff recently saved four dogs from a canal they were dumped in, in Southfield.
“We believe the dogs were dumped in the canal with no way of escaping. One of the dogs was found shivering in a bundle, surrounded by faeces. This dog clearly sat in the same spot, hoping to be rescued,” the SPCA said.
The other three dogs bolted when they saw humans, making it extra hard for SPCA inspectors to rescue them.
“Our inspectors battled for three days to capture the dogs, and it felt like a victory when they finally managed to rescue them. Through persistence, SPCA inspectors managed to successfully rescue the dogs and bring them to the safety of the Cape of Good Hope SPCA.”
The organisation said it was evident that the dogs had been in the canal for some time as there appeared to be an area which they made “their own” – an excessive amount of faeces were observed under one section of an overbridge.
“A special thank you to the person that contacted the SPCA and kept us updated on the whereabouts of the dogs in the canal. We cannot rescue animals without the ongoing support of the public.
“We are calling on the public to come forward with any information if you recognise the dogs,” the SPCA said.
