Cape Town - Church minister, entrepreneur, community activist, train driver specialist and independent candidate councillor Mohau Kgolokwane said ensuring social cohesion and building a united community would be his top priorities if he wins ward 4 as a councillor.
The ward – which includes Milnerton Central, Phoenix, Joe Slovo, Summer Greens, Royal Ascot, Milnerton Ridge and Sunset Beach – suffers from various ills, such as racism in schools, pollution, the homeless and a lack of established placement for informal traders, which Kgolokwane said he aimed to address if elected.
Kgolokwane was an on-the-job trainer at Transnet Freight Rail for 18 years and served as a shop steward of the South African Transport and Allied Workers Unio for 10 years while also acting as the executive of Phoenix Ratepayers and chairperson of the public liaison committee in ward 4.
Kgolokwane said he was a firm and principled man who worked for the common good of the community, which could only be achieved through collaboration, regardless of political affiliations, and therefore felt his neutral conduct in politics was the best approach.
“I am looking and building towards the future beyond these elections. I am growing in hope and confidence daily; this is only the beginning of a movement of God's people to a better, prosperous South Africa,” said Kgolokwane.
Milnerton resident Alphius Gaobuse said Kgolokwane was a member of their community who had even helped to place people at a nearby construction site.
Milnerton community leader Amanda Kemp said Kgolokwane was an upright gentleman whot always got the facts straight and loved the community, often going out of his way to assist.
“As a community worker for the past 30 years in Joe Slovo Park, Mohau was the best. And in all my years I’ve been working in the community, I’ve never seen such an outstanding young, brave man who wants to pull this community right,” said Kemp.
